EGT install on a 200TDI Defender and Boost Gauge
Today while is was pulling the fender apart for its Pre eximine before the Highcounty trip i though id install the EGT and boost gauge.
Here is what i have done so far....
I pulled the manifolds off to drill and tap the Exhaust manifold for the 1/4" union on the EGT probe.
I added a "T" piece on the turbo existing port to the waste gate and fuel pump, out of this i added the Boost gauge port.
I'll add more pix tommorow of the install, but here is the one of the Exhaust manifold tapped and the union fitted.

More pix to come.

EGT and Boost Gauge are now in.
The T piece i used is a VDO item, 1/8" gas male to 2 females.
But its too long, so i'll get a shorter one from the plumbing suppliers tommorow. Why is it too long?? the pipe from the air filter hits it. i dont want to rip the flexy pipe.
EGT Probe can be seen on the Exhaust manifold

I eventually got it all back together and fixed the broken exhaust bracket while i was there.
Took it for a Drive and as i suspected...... Boost works and so does the EGT.
This Boost has been on 3 cars now and to be honest.... Autometer is crap... it went out of calibration not long after i got it. so its a guestimate in my eyes. Anyhow it says 14psi when on max boost

EGT results...
on a casual 60kmh drive 300deg C
100kmh on flat ground 400deg C
holding it flat in top up and down hills 500-550 deg C
Idle 100deg C
So there is room for Tweeking..... Yippy.... i love to Tweek..
While i was there i moved my Volt meter to the Center panel where the Ciggy lighter is.
Its a bit daggy, but i'll make a nice panel for the guage and the others i'm fitting.

I drilled the original T piece and brazed in the adapter for the VDO Boost gauge. Makes it a neater fit and almost looks original.

it appears that pretty much any turbo diesel, safe max is 720* before the turbo, and 550* after.
