    D1 3.9 V8 - couple of questions

    2 quick questions, both relate to a 3.9 V8 from a D1. (Although this is all in my RRC)

    First up - which way does the fan undo? Book just says ‘Diesel models are left hand thread’ but not much else - so are these RH thread? Would have though they would be the same as the engines spin in the same direction.

    Secondly - Just got a better radiator but it’s from a manual so doesn’t have the cooling loop for the auto but tye auto still runs through a seperate cooler up front anyway - given that I won’t be towing anything, would the trans be fine just running through the front one or should I upgrade this to a better cooler straight up?

    Gav, Fans undo in the same direction as they rotate. (kudos to Blknight for saving my butt awhile ago )


    Just as a side note, the engine spinning in the same direction won't guarantee the fans spin the same way as (an example) the 3.5 has v-belts and drive the pulley from over the top where as the 3.9 with serpentine drives the pulley from underneath.

    Q2. The Disco's have an idiot light for trans temp which probably does not help you much. It maybe worth adding a second cooler if space allows it. I put an extra one (from an RRC) on my 300 auto D1 by cutting into the original lines. I doubled up on all the hose clips as a precaution as I have had one blow off.
