After reading throuht this thread, I went down to the shed and fitted my Trans temp probe that came with my MadMan 5 or so years ago...

Anyway, i thought the bung was the correct size for the pump output --> Trans cooler orrifice, but it wasnt. So ive located it in the Fill Point bung in the pan of the trans.

Towed the Cub Camper up to Halidays point and back over the weekend, and the highest trans pan temps I saw were about 63*c

ive no idea how this would corelate to trans output temps, BEFORE the cooler, but its intersting to see that the fluid the pump is sucking up is reasonably cool.

Wouldnt cool pump inlet temps be more beneficial to transmission longevity, as the oil the gearbox is being fed isnt scorching hot???

Sorry, What I think I meant at the time, is, would monitoring trans oil in the Pan be more beneficial than monitoring it as its pumped out of the trans towards the cooler?

I suppose, monitoring it as it leaves the tranny would give more of an indication as to how hard the trans is working???

Another thought; if the "fill plug" is actually a LEVEL plug, would the sender fitted to that bung actually be exposed to trans oil whilst the vehicle is running/driving????????

there is a second plug quite near/next to the gearbox outlet, using that would be better,, pic of it on site somewhere---

Yeah, it's an m14 thread, I didn't have an adaptor handy to suit at the time.
