Have found another source for the centrifugal filter on the TD5.

These ones fit and work.

Also have a range of Landrover spares, accessories etc coming available soon... More info to follow.

I'll be offering a 'list discount' to AULRO members once established which should save you all a decent amount of money. 8)

Who on this list had an aftermarket centrifugal filter fitted and had issues? Please post here, and what brand you remember it being.

I put my money where my mouth is so I have fitted one to mine. Its working (whirring) fine and I want to prove the products I'm offering.

So for the first 2 members interested I'll send you one free to prove it to you.

Hi Mike.
I've just changed my centrifrugal and the Mann item I was sold was the same as already installed.
But mine "don't do no whirring noises" so how do I know it's working?

What I really want is an oil filter remover that gets in the confined space available and actually works.

Aaln if it ain't whiring, thers a fair chance it ain't working. I had some replacement brand fitted only to find they didn'st work. Lucky I noticed straight away. Went back to original.

I had a non-genuine one fitted (didn't realise they were going to use aftermarket item). I told them I wanted a genuine one because I had read about the problems in the UK with aftermarket brands, but they assured me it would be fine.

I can't hear any "Spin-down" when I shut off the engine when I'm in the drivers seat. Do I need to open the bonnet to hear this noise?

It went straight into the workshop when I bought it so I don't know what it sounded like before that.

My OEM one didnt always whir either. It took a little run at decent engine revs to get the whir to ocur!

Cold oil slows it down faster, by the time I turn off its stopped.
Warmer engine temps gives me a definate whir on wind down... Only lasts about 4 seconds after shutdown though.

Take the vehicle for a drive, rev the engine moderately and let it warm right up. then shut down and listen on P/S of vehicle... You should hear a whir.

The only time I have heard this is when it was switched off in the garage after picking it up from the dealer!!!
To be sure of the good oil I dumped the oil and all filters as soon as I got the car and have not heard it since. I discovered my dodgy filter after 8,000 k's and even after putting in an original filter it still doesn't make a noise. Two centrifuge filters were sent back because they were hitting the housing....but I do not recall who the manufacturer is.

Is it a possible that because we change oil & filters at 10,000 k's that everything is still fresh and tight so we do not hear it :?:

Also depends,

are you a good diesel turbo owner and let it idle a few seconds before shut off?

If so the filters already slowed a significant amount prior to turning it off.

New oil is probably the reason,I couldnt hear mine but with 2500ks under her belt I can now hear the normal wind down noise.
