Puma question. How does the steel plate beneath the cubbybox attach to the car?

    Hello wise forum.

I have to re-install the steel plate that sits underneath the cubbybox. It has been out for years and I can no longer remember how it is fixed in place. The back edge obviously slots in and then the front edge is fixed down somehow. I’m looking at blank holes in the front of the panel, and they line up with smaller holes beneath. Is there a plastic captive nuts or something that I’m missing?

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

    cheers

If the holes in the panel underneath are square, then there should be a small orange plastic plug that takes a large self tapper.
If the holes are round, then it'll be a speed nut type thing that again takes a self tapper.

its a panel piece on a landrover yeah?

its held on by hopes and dreams.

You hope it fits and dream of the day it seals up enough to keep the dust out.

as per diesel dan, if the panel it fixes to has larger holes it takes a clip nut or speed nut (Id be tempted to insert a rivnut or nutsert)

if its a square hole in the recieving panel it needs a square grommet nut , like the ones shown here

Is it a permanent fitting or does it need to be removable?
If permanent, could you just pop rivet it?

I've had the floor and seats completely out of mine and I don't recall there being a single speed nut on the vehicle. The cubby box is held by rivnuts, easy to remember that as one of them had not been riveted tightly and I had to get a pair of vise grips on it from underneath to stop it spinning while I undid the screw. The panel that it sits on iirc was self-tappers in square plastic clip-in plugs.
