    Workshop compressor capacitor

My compressor needs a "hand spin" to get going. Apparently, there are start & run capacitors & I need to replace the start one.
Which one would it be? Google is no help.

Pretty sure it's the bottom one with the higher Microfarad number, but at around $50 each ( last time I did one ) why not do both? I got it from a motor place in the Gully, but I suppose Dandy would be closer for you.

^^^ What he said. And if the start cap is duff, the run probably isn't far behind.

Very easy to test them for anyone with the right meter , literally a 1 min job .
Could also be the centrifugal switch or the start winding .
Quite often when they go they split & smell bad .

    G'day All,

"Rockby Electronic Components" Melbourne has motor start/ run capacitors for a few dollars. This is the link to the page:

They do mail order as well and if your value not listed give them a call to check stock or where to buy at good price.

Both Capacitors can be purchased from Wiltronics Melbourne:

Or catch fire and start spewing smoke into your evap cooler which then fills the house , that was fun - not.

Wow. Another reason for me to like that mine is 3 phase.

There was a house burned to the ground last week in Melbourne somewhere where the fire started in the evap cooler on the roof.

    Workshop compressor capacitor

I didn’t think it had been hot enough yet for AC this year in Melbourne - I installed new AC in the house 2 years ago along with really good insulation - I could count on one hand how often we’ve used it since, but I am glad it’s there for when it’s needed.

I think Saturday may be a day it gets a run based on the current forecast.
