    Smile Maxi-Drive Axles/Difflocks.

G'day all, just wanted some independent advice on these Maxi-Drive products as I'm considering the installation of the difflock/axle combination for both front and rear. Obviously, I realise there is no doubt about Mal's engineering qualifications. My questions are:
Is the setup a lot stronger than what I currently have-87 110 Isuzu County?.
& if so, where is the next weak point?.
Is the diff carrier replaced with a stronger unit, in the conversion?.
Vacuum comes from the existing system?.
Is it best to give Mal the entire axle/diff/housing, so he can set it up as one unit, with the correct tensioning/torque?.
Anything else I should know, good or bad.
    Thanks in advance.....

i don't have the complete maxi setup but have started upgrading the axles to maxi, did the rears last year and will do the from when i have the $$$, i have arb lockers front and rear, i think i have read that the county cv's are pretty tough or at least tougher than the 110 cv's, don't quote me on that. i haven't heard any bad comments about mals gear

have you considered the an arb locker / maxi axle setup, the benifit i see is there are more arb service centres across aus, you get an on board compressor, cheaper overall to install and no cutting and welding of the diffs

It'll be stronger. Basically everything gets upgraded except the cw&p itself.

Talk to Mal himself about the weak spots, he's always helpful.

Definitely give Mal a call as he is very easy to deal with and will always help you out. Talk to the man who knows LR's inside out.

Great diff locks, but unfortunatley Mal is on the verge of retirement and his buisness is for sale so the future parts availability is a big question.

Jac MacNamara is option 2, although hard to deal wioth by rep, the gear is top class. The locking mechanism is much better than Maxi's.

ARB gear is good also, but I had nothing but leakage problems with the air line on mine, even after replacing the o-ring twice, tightening and checking the lines, compressor, etc..

I have full maxi's front and rear, can't recomend them highly enough and worth the pain in forking the dollars out on

I have had no probs with the locker - can take a bit of to and froing with the steering wheel to get it to lock in sometimes.

Good thing about it is only one switch so you don't need seperate one for a compressor. Also the light comes on only when the locker is engaged not just when the solenoid has been activated (like on Air Locker )

I have the full rear Maxi locker and axels. In the front I only have the axels. They are great. The locker runs of the existing vacume system.

    Gerry,

I had a maxi drive diff lock on the front axle of my last county isuzu. It was great. vacuum system operates off the vacuum pump on the alternator. I will get one on the current car when money allows.

When you did an engine swap did you swap over the oil filter housing or use npr type that is upside down at an angle?

damn fortunate getting a pto winch - rare as.
