Timing cover finally off today Td5 timing chain advice my goodness I'm all sorts of overwhelmed right now and missing my car and independence.
    Its fascinating too though.
Its quite a mess under the timing cover. Haven't got any of it out yet as not really sure of the locking timing process as Google gives conflicting advice. Have the crank one in but the cam one at the top isn't in. Not sure if that means more turns?

Also there's bits of the timing tensioner that just isn't there any more. Worried its all throughout the engine Td5 timing chain adviceTd5 timing chain adviceTd5 timing chain advice
The little bolt at bottom of timing guide has no thread and isn't fastened in. How I'll never know Td5 timing chain advice

in your first image the dark chain link need to be near the bottom of the crank, and you have two dark links that will show up at the top of the camshaft too.
Many engines have a 2:1 crank to cam ratio, so like you assumed, keep turning crank(pin out first, obviously) until the dark links line up top/bottom, and then finesse the crank a bit to get the crank pin in place again.

it was a long time ago now. From memory I ordered a new securing bolt as well from the research I did. That bolt has to be done up very tight. Otherwise it is complete to install .

    cheers

Saw a lot of the crank the motor method but didn't do that with bits of timing chain tensioner where it's not meant to be Td5 timing chain advice

Bolt is out though Fire and leverage (and new rattle gun also had a go

Make sure this goes in the bin and you use a new one.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Yes. Pretty sure it's a single use torque to yield bolt. You don't want the thing coming out. Or breaking

    Definitely replacing that big bolt.
Does anyone know if the tensioner bolt needs replacing or are they good for a long time/multiple use?
