    tyres in Melbourne

Give Widetread tyres a call in Ferntree Gully. The are on Burwood Hwy, at the base of the "Mad Mile" going up into the hills. They are great on price, and have a wide range, including second hand tyres. My BFG Muddies were some of these.
    Good Luck,

    Ken

Well I went with the new Cooper ATR from Widetread for $235 each. Never run Coopers before so we'll see how they go.

You can still get Michelin XPC but at $350 each - yep $350 !!!
Michelin Synchrone are $250 each but don't last as long apparently.

Here is my short list of tyres that may suit on road/off road style.

    Sliverstone AT
    Pirelli Scorpion
    Toyo Opat
    Bridgestone Dueller AT 694
    Coopers ATR
    Coopers HT
    Bridgestone Dueller AT 691
    Goodyear MTR
    Goodyear Wrangers

    Now...which one?

How long do you think the Synchrone's would last compared to the XPC's?

They said you could only expect 60,000km out of the Synchrones. XPC were good for 80,000 - 90,000

You have a big variation in capabilties/purpose there ..... eg Cooper HT against Goodyear MTR .. .one is a strict road tyre and one is a mud tyre. so its not really comparing aples with apples.

If you want a reasonably good tyre for on road that can handle itself off road then the Goodyear MTR's are a good choice. My father just did 10,000 on them on a trip up to the cape and they are still in very good nick. He converted over from BFG AT's and swear by them now.

It really depends what you can afford and what you want out of a tyre though. I run BFG muddies in 265/75/R16s on weekend trips and have BFG all terrains for around town and touring.
