Still on topic but from another angle, I have read a little here about one member having overheating problems after doing the chip. Is this a big problem in a TD5 from anyones experience. Its no good going for more power and then having to do the cooling system up as well, or worse still cooking the engine if you don't. Can you do the chip and not touch the cooling system? This dieselgas system, if set up for more power may cause problems too. Just a thought, I will be driving mine to Bourke this summer ie HOT and don't want any problems. I didn't don't have any problems with mine now and don't want any in the future. You have to be able to drive how you want and not be worried about it overheating, I believe anyway.
    Cheers Scott

Ricks 4X4 did mine. Its a BD chip and adjusted to Ricks specs in as much it is detuned to keep the EGT at 650 degC. I have not touched the cooling system and after around 40,000k I am very happy. Have done one Qld summer and no issues.

Who did the detuning? Ricks or BD?

I'm guessing that is mine. THe problem wasn't the chip just the monkeys who worked on.
One of those who shouldn't be allowed near a vehicle. let alone flog it off on the unsuspecting public. Don't know if it was the dealer or the owner who is the @@$#%#$^.

Yes It was yours that I was thinking about. Thanks for the reply, I am seriously thinking about getting either the Dieselgas or a chip. We can now get the $2000 back from the Government which makes it more tempting. Thanks all for the input, main point I suppose is not to go for too much, as the engine will or possibly be overstrained? Thanks again Scott

I would say don't use mine as a decider. Most others havn't had the problems I have. Propoer care in the first place would have avoided 99% of my woes. Instead they just hide it for the $$$$$

I doubt it would be a problem at all keeping it cool, externally, internally if its been tweaked to far and EGT is off the clock you could be in trouble.

I`ve found the TD5 cooling system exceptional. I have never had to temp gauge to 1/2 it sits about 1mm below half all day every day (never driven it in cold temps though). I have run mine hard all through summer out here in Dubai (45+, with high humidity) with the A/C going flat out and pushing it hard through sand dune`s in the middle of the day, flogging the nuts out of it at relatively low speed and the temp gauge does`nt move.

The real test came flogging along a soft sand track heavily loaded, tyres at road pressures, pretty well flat out in 3rd high at approx 50-60kph for about 1/2hr, most of the other vehicles land cruiser etc, had the temp gauge climbing pretty high, but mine was rock steady just under 1/2.

So with a chip you might lunch an engine internally with high EGT, but external cooling temp should`nt be a problem.
