This may have happened a while back, but it's the first time I've seen these.
The infamously expensive and rather large moulded bottom radiator hose is now a multi-piece arrangement using a high temp 'plastic' as joiners and tee pieces with short sections of 'rubber' hose clamped with metal bands and now made in The Czech Republic.

What price was it and can you post a photo?
I bought one from an aftermarket LR parts supplier about 6 months ago and I think it was made in Poland. Didn't have metal bands though. Just looked normal with the joints between the fat and thin hose just looking like moulded rubber.
Mine was $75 and it was in plastic bag with what looked to be a genuine Land Rover sticker on it. No idea if that means it was genuine or not. Bought a complete set of hoses for spares (and to replace them all when I could be bothered).

I purchased a top hose for my TD5 Disco from an after-market supplier and the hose sounds much like the one you described. I thought it might not suffer from the failures that the LR hose does. It looks a bit weird with those plastic sections, but I'm not fussed with the moulded joins in the LR version and am prepared to try it.

The new hose was in a stack of bits I ordered last week, and as Inc says, the new hose design is a sight to behold.
Can't really post a price either as I buy trade. Not fair to my supplier.
