Every single thing that has been fixed by the green oval boys has been done to my complete and utter satisfaction including 3 go overs of the clutch to get it just how I like it. But now that i have to deal with the blue oval freaks :~( its been like trying to push diaoreah up a teflon wall with a fork..

and in a sort of age order oldest faults to the newest
items marked with a * are items that were fixed that we didnt know about (but were associated with an assumed failure)
    the list

    radio fell out
rear door lock fell out (still worked with central)
    flap seals
    * windshield frame seal
    aux power out let failure
    * second battery managing unit failure + second battery failure
    clutch loosing fluid
    10K km service

drivers side door seals (guys did all door seals)
    flap seals
    drivers side flap seal
drivers side flap (the drivers side flap was weak so the seal could never work)
    passanger side mirror worked loose

    (lots of time later)
this stuff was fixed by ford
doors not shutting corectly (hinge sag and lock adjustments)
    rear door seal
front flap seal (the drivers side flap was not correctly installed and had worked loose)
    clutch loosing fluid
sloppy rear seat mounts (they wanted me to pay for this but lost out as it was questioned for warrenty repair and they didnt ring me to confirm the expenditure of my $$$ for the fix)

I have the following faults I am still trying to get the blue oval freaks to fix
noisy wipers (at end of travel sounds like the inside drive bush is worn and grabbing)
rattling air con fan (the one in the passangers side foot well)
    loose external door handles
rattling from drivers and passangers door when windows are not fully closed
intermittent lumping on cold start ups
    occasional clutch stick when cold
    hard shifting when cold

Id love to get 2 weeks off so i could go back to Tonies and say "dude, bout my rover wouldya mind........" I know Itd be all smiles and "Sure Dave and here, have a loaner while we fix it for ya...." (well i hope so anyway)
I'm assuming you mean radio/cd player. Mine has fallen out everytime I go on corrugations and most of the other issues you have had.

I was hoping you would say "no not a problem" but not to be.
I'm off to the Gulf for 10 days soon and my confidence is not good.
Warranty ran out end of last month so will soon see what the girl has in store.
It's better off road than my 300tdi ute but I'm yet to feel the same confidence in it.
All this electrickery has left me with nothing but doubt.
That f@#$ing electric fuel pump is a concern I could do without.

Hehe yeah I decided to trade up (if that is what it is!)

All these problems? Maybe I'm not making the right decision??? Might have to think about the Patrol again???

    Defender Td5

    Hi Harro.
Yes the fuel pump is a worry and on a recent club trip a member had his just stop with no prior warning. Luckily we had some members who were able to diagnose that there was power to the pump, but no pump working.
New pump flown from Perth aorund $540 with freight and quite easy to replace once you've emptied the vehicle.
My problem was harder to find and turned out to be the Throttle Potentiometer and had to be shipped to Perth for the Testbook to diagnose.
Big prob. getting it trucked down because of the camper attched to it. Trucking company expect all non standard items to be dumped including the fridge (1500 bucks and just dump it!!!!) and have no sympathy that you may be many miles from home without anywhere to leave stuff. Bastards.
I've not yet got full confidence in the thing and may well sell it for something less complicated. Good luck anyway. They're great when going well.

So far As im concerned all the crap that went wrong is "not a problem" I happily forked over my $50k for a defender becuase I know that $45K or so was spent on the chassis and everything underneath $3k was spent on body work and feel nice crap and there was say $2k profit in it.

for $3k of body work leaking seals, sloopy doors, and a falling out radio I can deal with. Nothing important has even drempt of going wrong yet and I carry a holden EFI in tank fuel pump in the tool box (did 7 of them in the disco)

Given that the vehicles got unit injectors if your throttle sensor fails (guessing here I havent even looked at the TD5's yet) you can re adjust the cam timing of them so that they inject more (up to a certain point) making the engine run faster. Its some thing some old timer showed me to get a Detriot series 53 home, 1200rpm is better than 600. Its kind of like brute forcing a limp home mode.... Once the warrenty expires Im going to start some serious playing with big red to find out exactly how hard i can make her limp.

Easy... the old v8 disco for some reason ate fuel pumps. so rapidly I learnt how to replace them. after buying one I accidently dropped the old one and the plasticy pump housing and filtery thing cracked and out fell what looked like a holden EFI in tank fuel pump. Hmmm says I have to remember that... from then on instead of replacing the lot I just went out and bought after market holden pumps, worked out how to get the cage apart and wedge them instead. LOTS cheaper and more easily available.

Now I havent looked into whats in Big Reds tank but the Pump I carry comes with a couple of differnt adaptors and I still have my last Spare from the disco cause I forgot to give it to the guy who bought the old girl... (hes had it 4 years now doubled my ks in it and not a problem... bastard)

Im hoping that A, as its only a lift/priming pump I can work a similar doge, even if I have to hold it together with gaffa tape and string and B, murphys law dictates that the only thing that will go wrong is the thing you arent prepared for. Spare fuel pump on board = no fuel pump failure.

... interesting. My fuel pump has gone twice this year and GC said there was no other alternatives. But of course they are only going to fit something that is off-the-shelf and not something "hammed" together.... but I like it. Only thing with the defender is you got to take out the whole tank just to get to the lift pump (disco is not a problem... they have access from the floor inside the car)

But check this thread.... Vida has cut-out his own access hole for a 110 and 130.

Gotcha ... ta. Thought you were talking 'bout the fender pump. I had similar probs with the pump on my V8 Disco. My answer was that the connector terminals weren't up to the job. Got a sparkie to fiddle around and improve them then had no further probs.

    Cheers
