Just for interest, some years ago there was a garage in Rollestone (Qld.) doing L/R conversions using the 2.8 Daihatsu na diesel/5 speed box combination. I was shown some in progress. They also did complete strip for hot dip galvanized chassis. (had one on the floor, looked impressive)
The engine/transmission was a very neat fit with min. modifications needed.
Havn't been that way for some time, so dont know if they are still in business.

I think the Daihatsu engines and gearboxes are rebadged Toyota items
