How many here actually run front and rear lockers?

You'll find you'll use the rear a great deal more BUT the front becomes alot more advantageous when negotiating extremely tricky objects like trees and large step ups and the like where your rear won't do diddly, and used correctly anddriven sensibly your front locker will save you from breaking CV's

IMHO heres how Id wire it all up.

The lockers would be wierd so that you would have to turn on in sequence

the compressor, the rear diff then the front.

The Rear diff would be wired on a relay to the brake lights so that when im on the anchorsthe diffs would be unlocked and the vent side of the air system would be hooked to the vacume side of the booster for extra snappy disengaging
A Detroit front and rear will do this and be cheaper with no compressor or air lines to worry about.

If you have ARB lockers front and rear installed by ARB, the way they set them up, you can't engage the front locker unless the rear is engaged, they do this for saftey and to stop you breaking CV's.

I previously had a county with only a maxi drive on the front. It worked great on rutted tracks and running up steep inclines, it seemed to pull you up the hill better.

I was keen to get a front one again before fitting a back locker. Mal from maxi drive recommended getting a rear first.

If you can't fit both front and rear, I would fit a rear locker 1st.

Besides the reasons others have given, it is important to upgrade the stock 2 pin diff centre, which is the weakest link in the rover drivetrain.

I will have soon. Have a pair on order for the disco.

My rangie has ARBs front and rear, bushie has mechanical selectable lockers front and rear. I think front and rear tru-tracs will do for the disco as the others have much stronger drivetrains for doing the hard trips.

Once again I value your input..the Toyo loving Mofo at my local ARB said why did I want a rear first when they sell more fronts, I scratch my balding pate and left with doubt now firmly etched in my simplton mind. But AULRO came to the rescue..
I was going the way of front and rear lockers with maxi drive axles.. but now I may go the rear maxidrive locker and axles and the LSD front with maxis if there is a lot of price difference..if there is little cost difference I will go the front locker aswell..thanks for your input .."when in doubt, poll it out"

thats probably cos nissans come with factory rear lsd's, dont know if toymotor do?

arb are only good if you know what you want and you cant get from anywhere else! dont even bother asking questions there, they got no idea! unless you drive jap!

Hi Guys, it might be dummy question , do i need to fit lockers on my Defender 2004 with ABS/TC? Does it have open diffs or LSD?

Once i got stuck in swamp because couldn't get run up 'cos TC was continuously getting engine revs down. I recon lockers has adv in some situations vs TC.

    Cheers,
    Ruslan

In that situation the same will happen with lockers. Thee're too much suction effect in the mud.

Lockers will be an improvement, it's the cost/benefit part you've got to weigh up.

Open Diffs. Unfourtunatly Land Rover never fit any cross axle lockers or LSDs in any model untill the Discovery 3 (with the locking rear diff option). Its a shame TC can be so intrusive whe the going gets tough.
