Maxxis Tyres anyone heard of em.....

As above, Maxxis tyres. I looked at some today at Bob Janes. They are Maxxix 751. An all terain tyre. The reason i ask is that they are going for 162 skins per tyre. I can get 4 for the price of 3 of any other reputable brand....

The Bob Jane franchise owner said they are good. Been around for 30 Years in OZ. Reckons if looked after (the after sales services every 5k km's) they are just as good as the other big brands. Apparently they rated pretty good in the latest Overlander tyre trials. Anyone back this up or disagree.

    Opinions or experience please

Had Maxxis on the old Rangie for around 6 or 7 years. They still had plenty of tread left....about 50%. I changed them because I felt they were just too old. Mind you The old Rangie only did about 5 or 6 thousand Klm per year mostly highway and nil offroad

I have em and they're great. (mudder maxxis buckshots)
$150 each from Discoute at Brothers - but he doesnt have them anymore.
They changed distributors apparently and now the best you get them is about $215 (I got my spare from Artic Tyrepower Rocklea)
I've only done only 4 decent off road trips with them, but they handled rock, dirt, mud and sand well.
They don't seem overly noisey on the h'way and cruise well (see how they go when they wear and harden a bit). They handle fine on the black top and in the wet too.
They don't seem to have chipped much either and they've been hammered twice on rocky trails and rock climbs.

For the money I reckon you can't go wrong. (unless they wear out quick - but a few mates have them and have got plenty of k's out of them).

Maxis tyres have come a long way from the early tyres, the 751 from memory is the all terrain tyre and is fine, the mudders are good all rounders so you may want to look at them to.

Do the ring around for best price and get a good deal.

i was offered so for the 90 the other day . They were $199 per corner .
But the BFG AT's were $235 per corner.
In my personal thoughts i will go for the BFG's as i have had them in the past and they have always done me good. After all we drove around Aus (35,000k's worth) on an old set and got one punture and that was in Bunnings car park in Cairns

A couple of our club members use them for road and desert use and they swear by them!
They seem very good value for money indeed.
Maxxis sponser alot of events in the USA....but interestingly not many of the compeditors use them!
I note alot of guys using the Indian made MRF's which are a Michelin take off of the XL's....also very good value. we use them on our 110 racer and in thre years havn't lost one yet apart from a nail in the bivviuac!

Maxxis have offered me 6 tyres for my trip around India in March 2007....but I'm holding out for sponsership from BFG for 6 AT's before I accept.
