Ashcroft Transmissions in the UK make an adapter kit to fit the Land Rover 5 speeds (LT77/R380) to the series transfer box. Ashcroft Transmissions

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.
Hi All,
I am still planning the truck at this stage. I have done all the research and have sourced some parts but at this stage time is an issue. However I will get there.
I have gone cold on using a V6 Holden engine because they seem to run really hot but I am now looking into a 2.7 litre turbo intercooled diesel as used in the Nissan Terrano a few years back. I believe there is a factory bell housing available to bolt the 5 speed up.
The other option of which I am fond of is the Ashcroft kit. Basically it allows you to connect a LT77 or R380 5 speed Range Rover / Discovery Gearbox up to the transfer case. You get to keep your yellow and red knobs but gain an overdrive.
I thought then a kit to bolt a jap diesel Isuzu / Daihatsu / Nissan / Mitsubishi up to the gearbox.
My major concerns for a conversion of this degree are
1. Excessive heat
(deisels generally run cooler than petrols so fitting a one makes sense)
2. Available engine bay room
(not much! So you need to be conscious of what you are installing, I like the inward lights of the Series 1/2/2a)
3. Fuel consumption
(i want to do cape york in the truck so if I get better MPG I will be happier)
4. Simplier
( no EFI on older diesels is easier to configure than adding an aftermarket ECU for a V6)
Where in Wodonga are you Chilly?

even though it's after the fact by a couple o years, this may help someone out, just my 2 cents worth anyway.
i picked up my series 3 a few months back with the ed33 convo in place.
was wondering how long the starter would go for,as it was cranking slowly when i got it due to it being 24v.
wasn't long.starter went kak.so i looked at some posts and read that you can go the series parallel/switch and another 24 volt starter route, but that looked expensive and complicated and a headpacker to boot.wasn't too interested in going to 24 volt,so i had to get creative as there is no off the shelf 12v replacement.
down to the local help yourself wreckers and proceed directly to the house of nissan.
found an sd25 powered 720 ute with starter looking remarkably similar to the cabstar unit.bagged that one for 36 bucks and went home to opertate.
i found that by removing the bellhousing adaptor/gear reduction assembly from the ed starter and swapping it across to the 720 unit with the appropriate cover swapping etc that it's all interchangeable {go nissan parts swapability-why do patrols have to rust?}.whacked the hybrid in and off the mighty racing landy goes again.
cabstar starters can be 12 volt!
long live the landy!
