Excellent mate!......thanks heaps! ........so this is the procedure basically so thatyou end up having the bearings running in oil from the spheres right?

I note that item (13) is not there in the earlier drive flanges [item (11)] on earlier Discos [pre 94(?)] and RR Classics - a solid, one piece, capless drive plate end.

yes, that's all there is to it.
Michele's drawing is showing a post '94 'fender front end with the plastic dust cap.

That diagram is different to the one for my Disco. I'll post up a pic of my diagram in a minute.

So if you remove part 23 the oil will flood as far as part 7 but not into the wheel bearings as far as I can see. So if you were to remove part 7 then the oil will reach the bearings. However I don't see how theoil is stopped from running out past the dust cap?

I think I will just have to buy two of those RTC3511 seals and pull it apart to see for myself.

Exclamation That's on the later ones - and can be a problem.

On my March 93 build date Disco and on previous RR Classics I've owned, there is no cap on the end of the drive plate/flange. So that's not a problem on the earlier set up........you just make sure the gasket under the end plate/flange is really good or better still, use a GOOD quality RTV silicon to make a good oil-tight seal here.

I'm pretty sure that the dust cap is on versions where LR switched over to the inferior swivel housing method of "lubed-for-life" grease and also had no drain or level plugs on swivel sphere housings.

So where does the RTC3511 seal actually go. I'm starting to think if I have oil in my swivels then I don't actually need to change to these?

If you've got a Disco 1 1994 "update"/ "300"/ larger square headlamps and bigger front blinker lenses and lamps in rear bumber bar - then I think you've got the later grease filled spheres without the level and drain plugs in them, only a fill plug and with the caps on the drive plates - can you go and have a look please and get back on that? .....it would solve a few queries.

Do any of you guys know about this DEFINITELY???.....What month/year build date did they change over

It is the update model and I've definately got the oil filled swivels with the three plugs (fill/level/drain) as I changed the oil a few weeks ago.

As for the dust caps I'll have to go and have a look.
