Good luck Ron, I feel the pain of expensive unplaned repairs... the worse though is for the poor youngish families that when a trajedy like this occurs can't pay for the repairs required.. Oh the memories of my younger married day's when I would be up to 11pm at night trying to fix it myself because I couldn't afford a mechanic or dibbing into the kids moneybox to buy the part needed to get to work the next day... Sorry to digress on your thread but reading your horror story brought back some trajeic memories. (leave the spelling alone I'm a brickie remember)

I have a cover that i was told was off a 96' 3.9 and it has the crank driven oil pump (inside cover) and uses a serp belt.

Hmm, dunno. I wonder if it came off the 4.0 cross-bolted engine (actually 3.9 litres).

Anyway, mine's back on the road with the new cover. The later pumps give higher oil pressure at lower revs which is good.

The only hassle was that the cover comes with the oil pressure switch for the post-99 models and uses a connector not unlike that used on an injector whilst the old one used a spade terminal.

No problems, I'll swap the pressure switch thinks I. Not so. They use different threads so I had to modify the wiring (which was as brittle as heck owing to the heat).
