Angry Disco II bonnet stuck closed..

    Hi Guys,

Anyone out there have an easy answer for me??

My bonnet appears to to stuck closed!..I suspect the catch is gummed up with that nice fine Fraser Island sand

I've tried flushing the area as well as I can with a high pressure hose.. no change.

I've manged to break the release handle....which certainly didn't help.

From underneath, the latch is fully covered by a metal plate that is rivetted in place. There is 1 small hole - I've ftried messing with ascrew driver through this.... but I don't want to break anything else...

I've searched the site here as well as the Rave manual...still no success.

Any constructive suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

can you get up from underneath or thru the grill to the cable and give it a yank with someone pushing down on the bonnet

Ohhh I love these kinda situations. Dunno about clearing sand out, but often bashing the bonnet above the latch with an open hand...hard, just dont dint! Gotta have someone pulling the cable tho.

Does the bonnet catch release move at all?

I would try to put some sought of clearner onto the latch are or even compressed air using a fine needle nossle under the lip of the bonnet. Might clean the crud out

Good to see no ones suggested an angel grinder yet!
...and here's me thinking a stuck fuel door was a problem (and the fuel light was on)...

I presume you don't have a bullbar because with one on you can easily pull the cable from under the car, try and remove the plastic cowling the one that acts like an air ram to the radiator once this is removed you can easily access from underneath the car.

I have had a really close look at mine, and this looks a bit tricky.

After you have cleaned it out as suggested above, lots of lube then an air blast - could you the remove the cable from the (broken) release lever and tug on it hard with a pair of pliers or the like.

Again if you have someone to assist while your tugging on the cable they can be pushing down on the bonnet in the location of the catch.

I drilled a half-inch hole in the plastic cover (through the grill) and used a big screwdriver to release the catch when mine got stuck. I removed the cover totally when installing a new cable after I broke the handle.
