    From the DBA 2005 catalogue p. 46

Please Note: Discovery I Series may have either Solid or Vented discs. Not interchangeable.

I don't recall seeing a Disco 1 in Australia with vented front discs......well, not factory anyway.

Maybe other markets with the higher compression engines had the vented discs.

Well obviously!!!......there's a difference of about 1" in their thicknesses......but the caliper spacers that LR [or Lockheed or whoever] engineered took care of that!

According to LR Service Manuals, the ventilated discs were used whenever asbestos free pads were fitted ........this can/might be translated as the litigious conscious US or other market where use of asbestos was limited by Law or whatever ....I really don't know when their fitment to Discos in Oz began and I used to have a late RR Classic with ABS that had solid discs.

With the DBA cross drilled and slotted gold rotors, the original calipers are fine. I fitted them to my Rangie (ex). Only a small noticeable increase in normal braking, but a rwasonable increase in hot or loaded braking. I got mine for $700 odd delivered with 2 x sets of each brake pad.

I have just gone through the same exercise with my 200tdi and ended up fitting DBA solid slotted rotors all round using Bendix h/d pads. Breaking performance when towing the boat is about a 30% improvement however no matter what I do I can't stop the rears from squealing like crazy. Next step I think will be to ditch the Bendix pads on rear.

Hmmmm......sounds like the way to go......although at $700 I think I'd be checking the price of ventilated versions of the same....not much more?...

BTW .....I just checked and standard ventilated discs are about $77[incl GST] each!!!! .....a bit of a difference!!

I'm just waiting on a call back on a price for the spacer kit [spacer+longer bolts +all seals].....will get back/edit this post ASAP

    OK.....Prices are:
    $77 per ventilated disc = $154

$330 axle set of spacers+ bolts+ all seals

say... $485 incl GST to convert a Disco 1 or RR Classic

    [prices are from Graham Cooper's]

PRETTY DAMN CHEAP, compared to $700 for just the discs.....although they're less labour if you can't do it yourself.
