    engle question

    hey

i took both engles away with me on the weekend, one is the latest 40L and used as a fridge and an older 32L which is used as a freezer.

the problem i had is the 32L would did not cycle off all weekend, i was running it as a freezer (once you take ice cream camping once one can never go camping without now) it sat around the -13 - -15 mark. i'm pretty sure it cycled on/off on my simpson trip last when it was running as freezer. when i unplugged the 12V lead it was super hot at the fridge end umm something wrong me thinks

i have had it back on 240V for the last two days and it is cycling on and off at -20 degrees therefore i'm guessing there is no problem wit the thermostat

    what should i check next

while typing i have been thinking maybe i should check the voltage at the end of the 12V lead to ensure i don't have to much voltage drop.

I think it may have been set too low, trying to get to -20 deg. on your 12 volt system kept it running non stop.
240 volts gave it the ompf it needed to get to -20 and now it's cycling.

good point, i did move the thermostat back a bit with no luck, umm maybe i should try moving the thermostat back until the compressor cuts out and leave it there and see if if cycles, -14's not bad for ice cream, just need to eat a bit quicker,

i just thought the thermostat is not a temp setting however it more a setting of how much the unit will lower the temp in comparison to the ambient temp, i.e if the compressor is capible of lowering the ambient temp by say 35 degrees therefore the motor should cut out when the difference between ambient and fridge temp is 35 degrees

on my simpson trip i was constantly checking that things were in order and i don't remember freezer not cycling, as i had two fridges running i was not actually checking each one

will have another play on the weekend

ok i rang caravan refridgeration services @ lawnton in brissy and got some free advise over the phone, which surprised me as it doesn't happen to much these days along with they may of save me a $75 serive/have a look fee and there was nothing wrong

they indicated an engle will not cycle on 12V on the max setting i.e. coldest. they recommended set to five till the unit pulls down to temp and than back the thermostat back to 3.5 and it should cycle

they also reckon to only set them to 3.5 - 4 on the dial on 240V as well, i have had mine sitting on 5 @ -20 degrees for the last two weeks on 240V and it has been cycling as normal

bloody hell i ran it for 20 days on my simpson trip on five, as i was runing two engles i never checked if both were cycling

will test it on 12V over the next couple of days

    Engel question

My Waeco's behave in much the same manner. I leave the freezer on the second lowest setting and it cycles on 12V. On the lowest setting it runs all day. Both the 40 litre and the 50 litre do it. I have an idea that Waeco's and Engels both run danfoss compressors, so what you're seeing sounds like it might be normal.

Why do you want to run it that cold.

    Frozen is frozen.

One of the best nick nacks I purched was a tempreature sensor for the fridge/freezer.

If conserving power as much as possible then it good to know you don't have freeze on deep freeze. Just enough to keep things properly forzen

not quite, it is called latent heat....

frozen at -5 isnt the same as frozen at -20
