    No throttle and black smoke

This one is out of interest,

One of our D2 Discos broke down on the way to a fire today (just after the climb from Penrith to Glenbrook - for those that know Sydney).

Td5 - No throttle response, but plenty of black smoke, had a rather un nerving clatter when you tried to throttle up.

Like I said will be fixed by the dealer so just wondering what it could have been.

Yep, chuck some Silicone ones on there....

And a complete set is cheaper than just 1 hose from LR.

did it work after shutting down and then restarting the engine......

sounds like its gone into some kind of limp mode.......overfueling to prevent the engine running lean......
it should have a fault stored in the memory as to what failed.....

    Zook...

    Mate!

You dont ever want to overfuel a diesel........

Limp mode makes them lean out.... Lean diesels dont melt down.

And dont bet on the codes!

I'll go with the collapsed hose theory, but interested to hear what it is. There are, of course a lot of things it could be from the description (including the oil pump bolt).

Unfortunately didn't have time to do any "in the field" analysis swapped with another disco and recovered the broken one.

It needed low range to get onto a car trailer and even then struggled.

Shutting down/restarting made no difference (obviously not made by microsoft ) although didn't disconnect battery or anything like that.

Had been serviced about 500km previous

Will keep informed if I find out the cause

Not the sort of thing you would want to happen in front of a major bushfire.

I reckon also that its a collapsed inlet hose. The symptoms of that are what you've explained and although its not common, its also not unheard of.
