Help req on rear springs for Def 130

    Hi Folks,
I need some new rear springs for my defender 130. I have orginal springs with the inner and outer coils and have put airbags in the inner springs but it still sags in the rear and ride has turned to crap with the airbars. Have played with air pressure from 5 psi to 40 psi but have come to the conclusion i need new springs. My ute is an extra cab, not twin cab but i have a steel lock up canopy. It weighs in just under 3 tonnes with a tools and two spare tyres at the back. I think half the problem is a lot of the weight is behind the rear axle but i cant change that. I have spoken to Andrew at LRA but can not get to Melbourne to trial some springs. Anyone here got a 130 and what springs, brand and rate have you used? I work in the mining game and the vehicle travels 95% dirt roads and is my work bus so need a good ride. Help would be appreciated.

    I have a Defender 130 dual cab.
Got ARB to put in HD outer coil springs in the rear end.
I carry a tray on camper and have been across the Simpson twice.
    Ride is good.

Thanks for the reply. The ARB springs you are using, are they Old Man emu? The local ARB mob here have ordered a set for me couple weeks ago but are on back order and could be a while yet!!! Rang King Springs today and they have some in stock but they require the removal of the inner coils so i am concerned about the ride quality.

    gary,

They are the Old Man Emu springs and the inner springs remain.

You can get HD and XHD.

I just got the HD springs as I could not apply the required weight to keep the XHD coils happy.

I would wait for the OME coils, they have given me good service.

    Springs

    Bob,
Thanks again for the reply. I believe i have ordered the XHD springs which i believe gives a 40mm lift. I will give them a ring tomorrow and tell them to hurry up! If it rides too rough i can always pull the inner coil out or go to the HD with the inner coil. Glad to hear yours are giving you good service.

    Regards Garry.

Stepfather has a 130CC with a camper on back with Lovells springs and the OE inners.
When I calculated out the rate it was 540lb/in. The thing rides fine, if you like wallow and roll
From memory it tares at well over 3 tonne.

Know what you mean about wallow and roll! Mine does that now with the steel canopy i put on it. A lot of weight above centre of gravity i imagine. Will see how the OME springs go if and when they turn up. Forgot all about Lovell springs!!

I don't know which springs I have but they are aftermarket heavy duty (Don't know the make or ratings). No inner spring with LTR shocks. The thing is fantastic on handling and doesn't notice a load.
