From this I would say that there is not enough 'uuumpf' in the way of amps at the 12v supply

.......and it will trip on either low amps or overheat (cut out)

Connect it direct to a 12v battery that is in top condition, and remember volts are not everything - condition/amps are as, if not more important- nothing in between - and see if that works - if it does there is a loss throught the wiring, normally due to the wiring not being 'fat' enough.

What size is the cable that the fridge runs off ?

2.5mm cross section, and the nominal draw at 13v is a little over 3 amps once its actually running, but it is old cable.... Might be time to replace.

if its running through a ciggie lighter connection.....these come loose with rough roads and arc out.......
causing resistance at the plug and result in reduced current.......

check the connections of the 12v lead at both ends........

maybe even borrow one from someone with the same fridge and test it..........

2.5 in my view is not enough, I would have 4 - 6 mm

What is the running current in watts or Kw

Have you measured the amp draw when you are trying to run it on 12v

what brand of fridge is it???

when its on the battery, it draws about 3 amps (less the multi meter was wrong) last time i checked it. The spin of it all is the fridge was working fine for the trip. Not the fuses, not the plugs cause its on those 32v lighting type sockets.

Dont think it can be the vehicle side of the harness Its specked to be able to dump 40a peak and 32 amps continuos to both internal and external points, while maintaining a 10amp load to the trailer. (45 amp circut breaker as primary with a 32amp slow/40amp instant circut breaker on the power circut and a standard 10 amp circut breaker with a 10amp slow blow fuse on the charging circut.)

But the cable that I am running is not the worlds greatest I would not be surprised if its gone high resistance as I have not set that up in such a way that Ican check the volts at the delivery side with the fridge running. Its on the tommorrow list now, along with the pics and a quickie trip report.

if its an engel you'll find the circuit board is stuffed as i have had this happen twice now in ten years of service from it, any service agent for the fridge will have a replcement
