    Air Compressor review?

So far I used a Monroe Airsuspension compressor to fill my tyres - a bit slow and stops quite often due to heat.

Want to buy a new one. As there are heaps on the market (ARB, Bushranger, nonames...). I am basically only interested in the compressor, do not care about all the goodies which come with it (hose, box, bag....).

I am looking for small reviews and recommendations.

    Cheers,
    Daniel

I got what is now a $70 one from super cheap about 2 years ago, ITs inflated countless tyres, been bodged into 3 different vehicles before getting put onto its on little air tank, off the air tank its been used to run a rattle gun (fire, wait wait wait, have beer wait wait wait wait, fire wait wait...) blow stuff off, inflate toys, and its still going strong..

But in Kmart the other day I saw a dual compressor for about $150 and thought.. hello that looks the goods...

Same here, I got one off ebay, not a real lot of use yet but it can pump up 4x 7.50x16 tyres from 16 psi to 38 in under 10 min.
I really can't see the value in these $250 plus units.
Look under search as there have been previous threads

Bottom line is nothing works as well as a converted air-con compressor (and nothing is as cheap if you do the fitting yourself).

I have a York on my IIA - which I used to run an industrial nailgun flat out while putting up a 20mx2m fence. It never ran out of air.

I have a Sanden 508 waiting to go on my 110.

I did the hunt for a decent (portable) air compressor a few months back. Many people had positive things to say about the cheap Bushranger Max-Air knock-off units so I got one at Supercr%p ... and it sh@t itself on the first tyre! It was probably just the fuse, but on the ocean-side of Straddie with four deflated tyres I wasn't going to give it another chance.

Took it back - got my money back - and now I'm just waiting to get a genuine Bushranger Max-Air for Christmas.

I have an ARB compressor that was in the toolbox but is now mounted under the bonnet to run my rear locker.
I've been told it is slower than some but I can't comment as it is the only one I've used even though there is another brand mounted under the passenger seat by the previous owner. However it has never cut out on me and just goes and goes.

I want to look into the engine driven option but have never gotten around to it. Inflating all your tyres after a beach run can be a pain. Expecially with the bigger tyres I will be getting soon(er or later). Not sure how I would do it on a serpentine belt driven V8.

Do you have air-con? If not, just get the brackets and compressor from a disco with air-con, and run the larger serpentine belt.

If you already have air-con, then you can either see if you can fit a longer belt, or adapt a v-pulley onto one of the existing pulleys to drive the compressor.

My york takes less than 30s to inflate my 33's from 8psi-45psi - with engine at about 1000 rpm. I do have air tanks which take the tyre to about 22psi straight away though.

have a supa cheap 85 litre minute compressor does the tyres quick and reliable, wont last forever but what does and if it fails lm usually out with a group of 4wders so borrowing one home to get back on the bitumen not a problem.

have considered modifying the range rover air suspension compressor but figure why bother to add more complications to the system

depends on what your doing with it other than blowing air back into tyres as to what your prepared to spend or need as suitable for the task.

I do have aircon and being in Qld I won't be giving it up for anything.

As for the other ideas I'll keep them in mind when I have my head under the bonnet next.
