many thanks for the update, I would love to speak to you face to face. But all i can go on is the info that various vets have given us over the years, porges, mcgreevy, holmes and zammit, admittedly some of it is a bit old. As allegedly dopy working dog handlers, we are not privy/nor told about the latest views nor research that abounds in the veterinary world. So we have a tendency of hanging on to accepted and time honoured ideas and methods.
As far as working service dogs go, there are hardly any veterinary experts over here, there are more in the US, given the country size and number of police forces.

Now back to the matter at hand, Byron, I am sorry my description seemed a bit disjointed. Imagine what I described as being a short periscope type arrangement.No higher than the back of the console, I had another look at the vents yesterday, and noticed no deflectors( well I never sit in the back.) But I checked the flow on split and floor only and it pushed out an ample amount of air to cool the backdown. Maybe the rear vents on a D2 have deflectors if so, maybe you can put them in and angle them up.
Now that you have admitted the vehicle is a genuine dog box, I agree with mr guts a ute with a cage, they get air all the time then, fresh and warm too.

ps don't forget to include photos for the finished product. It would be interesting to see the results.

My drivers side vent still bears the sticky bits from race-taping a flexible hose to the vent then down to my feet,, the (early only?) D1's get MUCH hotter in the drivers side footwell,,
anyway cheapest solution would be more hose from the centre two vents down and along the centre console, somehow over the cubby box,,

but I've never had any complaints about aircon in the rear,,,,,,,,

I finally got the aircon in big red sorted.. all I had to do was run a pipe under the roof trim, down the side of the b piller, behind the passangers seat, beside the center box, across the front of the TX housing in front of the fuse panel and sit it in the passanger foot well where the aircon fan intake is.

Then put a small box with a fan in it to blow the air down the tube into the foot well.

Works a treat but for giggles Im going to put one down the otherside too.

now the back of Big red is cool enough to sleep in with the aircon on 2/2 instead of 3/3 with a 12v fan mounted on the passangers headrest to move it around.

As long as you don't mind the ag/industrial look. A couple of poly Y junctions and some a/c flumming will do the trick. Or do it the series way and open your windows. ( Never liked A/C myself.)

Sorry, no can do, what with me in perth and big red at lucas's over melbourne way, perhaps he can be cajoled or you'll have to wait for say 6 weeks till I can get the pics taken then enough of a break to get to a computer that will talk to my cam and then write up the post.

But there is a simple fix, very simple

Let the Dog sit in the front

And if there is a wife involved , just gag her and move her to the back.(the gag will stop the wining)

A.The dog , because he/she will stop wining when u let them in.
