Thread: Bleeding Brakes on a Series 1 LR - drums!!!

are all 4 drum brakes properly adjusted....?

if the pedal pumps up and all is good till you start rolling......it could just be that the shoes need to be adjusted.....

how would we adjust them? is it the big bolt on the bottom of the backing plate?

so whats the procedure of adjusting the brakes?

You need to go back to the start.
As somebody else suggested adjust the pads(the bolt on the backing plate,only 1 I would guess on a SER1,there are 2 on LWB SER2 onwards fronts) so each wheel wont turn.
Re-Bleed then back of each wheel till they turn freely.
Roadtest.
If the problem still exsists you could have flex hoses that are swelling,wheel cylinders that need a kit or as you suspect a master cyl that needs a kit.
If the Snail Cam adjusters keep turning and not making contact you need to pull that drum off,the snail cam may be broken off or the stud on the pad bent or broken.
If you keep pumping and do get brakes and can hold the brakes its normally lack of adjustment,air or worn out pads.

Do what everyone else has mentioned and then stamp on the pedal when you are bleeding it. Don't be gentle!

When you get pedal resistance does the pedal feel spongy or firm?
If it is spongy bleed them again. If it is firm check the adjustments. John is correct, master cylinder kits are non-existent. A series 11 can be made to fit,
