TD5 Fuel Pressure Regulator leaking fuel - Help

Thread was not drilled in centre of the rise so the metal was very thin. I was a little over zelous when stripping the motor and undid these before noticing the quick release plugs on the lines. When I put it all back together I overtightened the line and snapped it off. So idiot power at its best!

Heading back to Melbourne yesterday from Hamilton, I was just outside of Smyesthdale when I noticed an oily film over the back window. Stopped and inspected and found the back of the D2 Td5 covered in diesel. I pulled off the road and she just haemorrhaged diesel from the engine bay.

I would estimate about 7-9 litres dumped in the space of 30 seconds. The whole underside of the car was dripping in diesel as well as the tailgate and bottom section of engine bay. The leak appeared to be on the left side of the engine bay. I have no mechanical knowledge at all :( so she was towed into Ballarat.

The fuel pressure regulator was replaced just 8 days ago. I was hoping for hints on what would break to dump so much diesel so quickly. I was made aware the fuel line was rubbing at the time of the fuel pressure regulator change-over but was told it wasn't an urgent fix.

BTW - The recall mentions rear fuel line rubbing? Does this mean I have no case if the fuel line rubbing & burst is in the engine bay. Remember, no mechanical knowledge :( :( :(

Anywho, ended up that the fuel line popped off the fuel pressure regulator (clip missing) which was replaced only 8 days ago by a well known LR Service Centre in Melbourne. They will be getting the bill. :mad:

At least you found it and it didn't go up in flames. Good luck on the chat with the repairer.

My td5 fuel reg just let go,

ordered a replacement today, will have to replace when the parts come in.

looks like a mongral to access, how easy is it to replace?

and importantly, any tips!!

How much warning do you with these failures? How long betwwen occasional drips starting & disaster?

Not sure how much warning you normally get, I only just replaced the water pump and was checking for water leaks and we found that one of the water puddles under the car tasted like desiel (the other two were from the a/c).

So not to sure how long it has been leaking, but you will find it pretty well central under the motor, not off to each side..........

Another way to check is to squeeze the insulation on the side of the gearbox, ours was saturated with desiel and poured out when touched.

P.S. the water pump is fine!!

Ours leaked for months, slowly getting worse until my wife got sick of it and made me get it fixed.

Don't know as I broke mine so it was instant fine then snap.
