Ah no... loud noises sound expensive

Heya all, was driving home last night and started hearing some loud noises from between the seats on the fender. only when getting past say 40k and accelerating... when i back off and coast it disappears.

Gears are changing okay, engine sounds fine so assuming maybe transfer.... i did lock the diff and stick it into low to confirm i could still do it but still made the noises.

Was only a couple K from home so kept driving and started to get a burning smell.

any ideas? please please pretty please

you checked the oil level in the gearbox and transfer?

then check handbrake assembly

okay it's F'd according to Ricks.

Drained only about 150ml of oil with a bad stench and around 5c's worth of shavings... so now going to have to find a reco'd unit.

Going to top it up with oil and see if i can get any driving out of it in the meantime though unless someone tells me i'm going to stuff something else up in the process? Figured only going to waste $15 worth of oil if i start off and the noice doesn't go away.

make sure the gearbox has oil in it :P
