    ABS Sensor

    Hi Guys

MLR have just informed me that I have an intermittent fault on one rear wheel sensor. This requires replacement of the loom which includes the other rear wheel sensor. Cost over $800.

Any ideas as to where else I can get this at a cheaper price?

    I'd appreciate any input.

    Yikes

I wonder if they could just run new wires to the sensor?

My ABS modulator has packed it in all together on a 2000 TD5 extreme.

They want around 7k for the replacement

At the moment I've got no traction control or BS but I'm not paying 7k

Bugman definitely don't spend 7K on another modulator.
You can buy 2nd hand in Aus (around 2.5K)
I've seen them on ebay for less and 1K.
Then you have the overseas (UK and US markets that could send you one far cheaper than prices in Oz)
There is also Wabco kits which can fix the shuttle valves in the modulator which is the prime fault of these units apparently. Perhaps someone else can comment.

You need to make sure it is actually a faulty sensor and not just dirt in the airgap - the stealer tends to want to replace rather than clean.

There was an after market sensor for the D1 ABS that was about a third of the price. I'd look into whether the same is available for the post 1999 vehicles, D2 and Defender Extreme.

Like has been said check it isn't just in need of a clean first though.

I had a sensor on my Disco II done for less than half that..... so I'd suspect it's another case of inflated Stealer pricing...

The old ABs sensor problem rears its ugly head again.
While I know there are a lot of blokes on this site who know abs probs backwards, i have had a similar problem for ages. Won't go on, goes off, goes on, and so on. When i had the timing belt done, i asked them about the abs, ( if i can say it, it was at Ricks at nerang, I know its a bit far from vic) anyway the testbook showed an air gap on the front sensors, they fiddled with it now it works twice as much as before.
I need to pull the sensors out and give them a clean,( I found a web link that showed how dirty they can get)
I think if the wiring is ok, sounds awfully steep to change some wiring over.
Why don't you try a 'continuity' check with a multimeter. ( someone on here told me about it ages ago) to see if you wiring is in fact kapooted.
