No the correct interval is 20,000km/12 months on the Td5 under normal conditions. The oil is supposedly 20,000km but most people change it at 10,000 it would seem.
HI everyone, i own a year old defender (13 339kms) td5 and took it to my local dealer for its first service today. I said thank you got the keys and drove it around the corner and pulled over.........
Clever me I marked all my filters (air, fuel, and oil) last weekend.....
Same filters left on!!!!! New oil and radiator fluid and grease in the drive shafts.... (alll the other places too).
So i went back in and asked them for a list of what they do on the first (20 000kms/12months) service.... The bloke handed me a piece of paper and showed me, and on this service filters don't get changed. The fluids do...
Am i getting ripped off or is this the way LR does it? I think it strange the filters don't get changed.
Anyone care to elaborate or comment?????

??? did you have a 10k service at the 13 kms on the clock, or did you have a 20k service with 13k on the clock?
If they don't change the filters till 20k then what was your service called? or do you go back in 7 k and get the 20 k service or do you wait till the next service interval after that and get the filters changed?
It was the 20k/12 months service i got at 13k on the car..... The next service (40k/24months) the paper says they will change the filters.....
It seems strange, wouldn't you change the filters the same time you change the oil????????

I'm not professing to be a TD5 expert but I know they have a centrifugal filter as well as a paper element.
I believe the action of the centrifugal filter is very efficient & makes the paper element last a lot longer.
This could be one reason why the marked filter wasn't changed.

i think you find in your book it will state 20.000 ks or 12 months which ever comes first![]()
If that's the case they should have done an oil change and replaced centrifuge filter. The paper element (oil) 60,000km and the fuel, air are at 40,000/24mths.
Like has been said the centrifuge filter means the paper one doesn't need replacing as often. Fuel and air filter are really on an as needs basis depending on conditions as well.

I had first (or pre-first) service at 1,500 km on the clock. Oil and centrifuge filter replaced. Next 20,000km service: engine oil + centr. filter, gear/transfer oil, front and rear diffs oil, air filter, propshafts greased, and etc. according book. I said i'm back from Cape York trip and done 10,000km, so they decided to do all this staff. I paid $362.

I would have thought that no matter what the intervals are, a new vehicle coming in for its first service should have all filters replaced, as its wearing in there are usually more contaminants that will be collected by the filters.

the initial service changes all the filters
with an oil change (by the book) you change the centrifuge filter which is buried and not easily markable and then change the paper filter on the second one..
