There doesn't appear to be any ready fix as yet, some people are experimenting with a couple of options such as sealants, but no results to speak of as yet.
Mind if I ask what business you are in and where?

						Hello lads.
It's been a while since I logged in but have been busy with the new business down in Tassie.
I've got a TD5 Defender extreme 2000 model and on Sunday she packed it in and wouldn't start.
She wound over but wouldn't fire. Checked the fuel pump and found heaps of fuel going to the motor but no bang.
Ended up getting towed into Launceston on the Monday morning and droppped of at the Local Landy dealership.
Upshot - main wiring loom harness and another minor one has had oil leek back up the harness and stuff it. I know this is a known fault because I've already had one replaced during the recall under warranty.
The issue is this work is going to set me back about $2.5k. They're quoting aroind $1600 for the main loom, couple of hundred for the other and around $600 in Labour.
Has anyone had any joy getting some love out of Land Rover for this problem after warranty has expired - or do I have to bend over and take it?
Also is there an aftermarket product or better product that should go in to ensure it doesn't happen again.
Brett

Do a search - there are a few chaps who have cleaned out their own loom - and a few of us are trying to find a fix for it.

Bugman, considering the vehicle is now classified as 7 years old, I would not be worried about replacing the wiring loom. I would be inclined to periodically clean out the loom at the computer end and anywhere else that you have access to the loom.
A thought I have been having on my Disco TD5 with a similiar problem is to put pieces of cotton wool amongst the wires in the loom. This will stop some of the oil reaching the computer and it is then a case of periodically changing out the cotton wool. Checking the oil level in the engine couldn't hurt either at the same time.
My Disco TD5 is a 2000 model, and as it is also now 7 years old, I am at the stage I am not going to go and run off to the stealer for every little issue it may have (touch wood it has been problem free so far !!).
Bottom line, if you can keep the car on the road with a little improvisation and a tiny little bit of inconvenience (ie cleaning up the loom and the computer plug from time to time) then this is far better than being bent over and shafted by the stealers for a new loom which will not ulitmately fix the problem or last.
From looking at the injector harness wiring underneath the rocker cover, the plug has a very small hole in it. This will ALWAYS leak oil through unless LR have designed the same plug without the little hole. I siliconed mine up which somewhat fixed the problem (photos available).
Cheers
Hi Bugman
Only replace the injector harness for starters, thats causing it,get them to clean the ECU plug and it should be mobile again.
I flushed my main harness with metho with great results,I think mines now back to 100%
If you do a search "flushing main harness" it should come up.If you cant find it yell out,I will have a look and post a link.

						Gents,
Has anyone got photos that they can post (or have they already been posted?) of the problem at both ends? So I know what I am looking at.
Thanks,
Mark
Hello Bugman
I have had the same problem with D2 TD5 ... 3 looms later and the damn thing still leaks, however there is a quick solution.
My Landrover dealer cleaned out the ECU, (the oil in the ECU causes the main problems) then cut away the loom casing where the injector loom enters the ECU and put a sealant at the ECU end to stop dust etc entering the ECU.
Now any oil that enters the injector loom simply drips out onto the wheel arch. Not the best solution I know & I'm currently arguing with Landrover over who's going to pay for the next loom, but at least it saved me spending big bucks.
Give it a go, you've got nothing to lose.
Cheers

						Hi All
So far I have only replaced the engine harness. The main harness that I bought was the wrong one. The Disco is starting to perform better and better no hesitation at mid revs when overtaking and the throttle position sensor is also working better.I have tried to seal the injector harness at the injectors and the main plug with silicon and heat shrink to early to tell if it has been a success yet but i am hoping.I will check the plug when I replace the main loom when it arrives.
Regards
Doug
