Thread: How to disable ETC properly. Did you know this?

I tried the process.
Normally my TC light goes off pretty quickly after starting the car. If you turn the ignition on and pump the pedal 10 times as suggested by Ruslan then the TC light stays on till the ABS light goes out at i think 8kph. Looks promising. Now just to test it

As I suspected doesn't work with the Wabco SLABS unit in the Disco 2a. Oh well, at least my Defender is electronically stupid and doesn't have all them fancy things

with no other info than 10 brake applications in ten seconds


if I was engine braking down a hill with 2 ton on at 60 in third id be pulse braking about often enough to do it, especially if I got caught out with a sudden increase in downwards angle that I didnt know was there..

Just tried it in my Disco2,didnt work either.

works in an 03 extreme Ive just had a play and an experiment...

heres how and what to expect

1. turn on the ign to the run position (all the idiot lights)
2. pump the brake pedal 10 times in 10 seconds (approximate I got it to work at 12 seconds on a stopwatch as well
3. if youve done it faster than the time it takes for the TC light to go out it will blink once and not go out a bit slower and it goes out but comes back on.
4. when you drive off it will go out with the abs light.

when you need it to be doing its thing the tc light comes on but nothing else happens

It doesnt do it if you dont start the brake pedal thing while the TC light is on (you dont have to finish by the time it goes out but its really easy to do it...

It doesnt do it if the engine is running

my test method was pretty simple

find somewhere with an uphill bitt where I could get crossed up (not as easy as I thought) and try various variations of the brake pedal thing...then try to negotiate the opstacle in first low CDL off and no run up. I did it maybe 15 times every time I failed to negotiate I reversed off with the steering wheel held firmly stopped then shut down and restarted the engine then had another go without turning the wheel.

Finally once Id sussed out how to make sure the TC was actually off I tried to negotiate with the TC off... a 3 foot run up in second low did it, First low came close but I didnt quite have the momentum...

The cross up was a fairly steep embankement with a small (maybe 4 inches) vertical ledge at the top, to guess at the height of the embankment, maybe 4, 4 1/2feet I had to negotiate at about a 45 degree angle and didnt quite lift the wheels but unweighted them enough that they had 0 traction.
