    you can convert a Bosch v8 holden dizzy to suit a rangie maybe some of the vic boys could help

    the rangerover owners club of vic put out a 2 book tech edition that covered alot of good tech tips for the early ( classic) rangies

    and i know this was covered in one of the editions , i know some one that has the 2 books , he guards them with his life

    Yep ive seen a holden dissy in a p76 and dident like it as im not keen on the reluctor systems they do a good job but not as effictive as the optical set up
    Thats my oppinion

    I've got an opinion on this (haven't we all).
    There are 3 basic types:
    Optical
    Hall effect
    Reluctor

    I suppose each has their merits, but the best (in a 4wd) is the Hall effect.

    The optical can suffer from either the sensor or light lenes being cover by dust or some other stuff. It's also easy for the chopper wheel to take out a light/sensor if badly aligned.
    The reluctor relies on an air gap that must be (reasonably) precise.
    The hall effect is the simplest and doesn't fail due to outside influences.

    Saying this, all the above system rely on some type of sensor that can fail.
    But, as i stated earlier, are set and forget, and are better than points.

    Harry your rite by saying there better than bloody points the crane system has the optical system with the chopper and the photo leds running it and crane rekon they are not effected by dust/oil/moisture but i wasent taking any chances so after a run in period i replaced the cap and rotor with newies checked the chopper was still in the middle of the relay/switch and glued the new cap on with hi temp silicone and havent touched it since just over 4 months now and not a single hicup would recomend this set up to any one with points in any veh

    Totally agree with you Chris.

    I used to run the Optospark 500.
    But it let down one day.
    The 3 wires from the pickup were rubbing on the power steering pump.
    Eventually wore through, and it stopped.

    Had a spare Allison 700 (now Crane 700).
    Threw that in, and ensured the wires did not rub.

    Both systems are good, and performed faultlessly (except for the wiring problem).
    I have used these systems for years.
    Although I still carry a set of points/condenser/wiring.

    Yep me 3 i always carry the gear to run it on points for a back up if any problem occours ...

    The crane 3000 is suposd to be a bit beter than he 700 as it dosent need to run a balast resistor and can run the coil at a constant 12 volts and like you said before harry this were im geting my gains as she fires alot hotter and im now thinking of trying a v groved plug for an even bigger lightning bolt
