Doesn't the 300tdi have the same bolt pattern as the 200tdi?
Parts for the 200 are harder to get, but nothing is unavailable as far as i'm aware.

how reliable do you recon the 200Tdi is ?? would it be a good choice
200tdi if looked after will last forever pretty much. the 200 and 300 tdi are the most reliable motors that I have heard of just about, as long as the timing belts are changed when they are supposed to be, otherwise boom!!! But that's the same as any engine.
sorry to keep askin questions but how much would i be lookin at for a GOOD 200Tdi engine ?? and where could i get one from ??
a good 200 tdi Is as hard to find as a good series diesel... or thereabouts....
the good news is aprt from the elastic band timing belt they are an easy rebuild if the heads resonable to start with and the block is ok...
theres a couple of 4x4 places in sydney that have em now and again when they wreck one... but if I was going that way...
Id get the tdi300 and detune it then put it in front of a IIa box.. or if moneys a bit more liberal than that get it with its matching box/tcase and hope the diffs stand up to it..
Hey I can physically squeeze a detroit s53 v6 in there, ok there not a lot of room for anything else (like a radiator) and the bell housings mouth is smaller than the flywheel but its doable..
in all seriousness, Im fairly certain the blocks the same and should bolt straight up. you might need to jinky the radiator, mounts, battery, exhaust and inlet ducting to make it all fit but the basic drop in part of it should work..
looking at the basic physical outline of them they're near enough the same size.
Then again, by hand span measurements If i punch the radiator forwards I reckon I can get a TD5 into a SWB... (yes transplanting big reds heart into kermit did cross my mind... maybe if I roll her over one day.....)
just to keep it rover and as Im fiarly certain it will bolt onto the existing box and be cheaper than making up the adaptor the tdi300
but those rodeos are in a lot of wrecking yards...
I can't see why tyhe 300tdi wouldn't be the same bolt pattern as the 200tdi. didn't they use the same gearbox after all? Try PM uncleHo and ask him ;)
