I'm not him obviously, but he posted on the Landrover forum at Pirate4x4.com recently saying they are still going strong at around 49,000 km.Good luck with getting Transport approval in QLD though.

I've fixed the broken links in my post on page 1 of this thread. See also What are Portal Axles?

looking at the pics "goingbush" posted, those are very early MD portals. Note the absence of box to axle housing bracing....I have a feeling those portals were MD #1 prototype.....many road and offroad miles put on them.

    Portals on perentie 6x6

    How are you all?

    Anyone heard from Oilworker lately?
I'm inspired to put some 4" portals from Wolfgang/Tibus/killer axles on my recently purchased land rover perentie 6x6. Had anyone got any advice/experience on this ?

Hmm, you should do a search for chook73's build thread. Seems that Tibus portals just aren't suited to Aussie conditions.

Chook73 has a set of Tibus portals bolted to the housings (no diff centre or axles) for sale.

I'm waiting for Brendan to lose interest in his 130. I'm patiently in line which resembles the line outside the Apple store for the iPhone 6.

Have a read here and the link to the thread below. In short - since the portals were fitted it seems to have spaint more time in the workshop than in use....

It seems that the german and I have had a bit of trouble seeing eye to eye about a few things and the situation has rapidly gone downhill. He has concerns about the amount I have posted online and feels that if he sends me a new set of portals and I break them he doesn't want me posting about it...

My response is that if the portals are as strong as he is claiming they are then they wont break and he has nothing to worry about! Needless to say I haven't heard from him for a month so I can only assume that he will not be sending a new set of his "heavy duty" portals. Read into this what you will, I have drawn my own conclusion.

Safe to say I am done with the portal journey! I believe I have given them more than a fair go, it has been a pretty rough couple of years but we all live and learn, I just hope that others dont find themselves in the same situation as me.

Over the last few weeks Brad from KLR has been removing both the diff housings complete with portals and replacing them with new (well second hand but stock and cleaned up) housings.

    In the rear
    - The new trailing arms have been re-aligned to return to the diff housing mounts which have been modified to take the wider arm.
    - The original Ultimate suspension springs have been returned
    - The hypoid diff centre has been grafted into the new housing
    - Half shafts and flanges have been supplied by Dave Ashcroft
    - New Brembo Pads and Discs
    - Gwyn Lewis Extended Shock Mounts

    In the front
    - Ashcroft 3.54 ring and pinion to front diff
    - Ashcroft half shafts, CV's and Flanges
    - Slotted Balls
    - Superior Engineering Superflex Arms
    - New Brembo Pads and Discs
    - Gywn Lewis Extended Turrets

I am going back to the flat dog flexi arches and for shoes I will be running MTZ 285/75R16 on 16x8 -25 Dynamic Rims.

Its going back to ultimate suspension for re-fitting the shocks this week and then once its engineered will be back on the road.

I also picked up a cheap Warn high mount off Ebay which has been striped back and is currently at the powder coaters getting tarted up.
