with 227K on the clock the paper element must be doing its job
the previous gave me two spare elements, he used to get them cleaned and tested and rotates them through every service or so
I voted oil bath, but seeing I run two vehicles, this is not the whole story - that is the 2a. The 110 runs the original Donaldson filter with safety element. (in both cases the original equipment)
Again, a not very well designed poll!

that said, you only get 10 questions in a poll.. and i did consider the multiple choice option but thought the please explain would lead to clearer results..

Ran Donaldson paper elements for years in tractors where you couldn't even see the front of the tractor for hours on end, the only engine we ever dusted was one that the driver forgot to do up the wing nut on the filter.
My TDi has a K&N in, but I have also bought an oiled pre-filter for the snorkel hood for dusty conditions. Have used K&N's for years in the UK with no issues, but was a bit concerned with the dust and sand here so thought I'd play safe.

I've tried the usual:
'cooper' PAPER types, they seem to do the job (as long as they consistently seal at their edges).
Dad is currenly running a 'GREEN STUFF', cleanable cotton filter, and have noticed that so far (after 20-30thou) it lets far less in fact zero visible dust through and into the post filter induction pipe.
also, have run it back to back with the OE type, and tried without any filter at all, and it does not restrict the airflow in the slightest.
Cheers,
Pug.
Standard Paper filter, but i will get the snorkle socks soon to help in dust conditions.
Cheers Baz.

I have a paper filter and have done so since 50,000kms when I bought my 300tdi. It now has 128,000kms. I can only assume it had the paper filter for the first 50,000 as it was serviced by Land Rover until 50K.
People need to specify their engine's kms too and if it's had a rebuild. If the engine had a paper filter for it's first 250,000kms and then you buy it and put a K&N in...well, you see my point.
