I have been told that this is legal - all you are doing is replacing the metal lines, as you would do if they rusted out.
Since doing mine I have found out that LRA (Rangie Spares) have beein doing this for a while now - with no legal issues.
I have a mate with the double flaring tool, so he made them up - but most good brake shops can do them.

$25 each for 4" longer brake hoses, $36 for the same in braided from Better Brakes in Cheltnham
hi i just split a frint brake line and had a new set from rover craft they have an off the shelf set made by goodrich stainless steel braided lines made in the uk, they cost me 115 plus gst and they are top quality. i would not buy any thing elts , they are also life time garentee.
the lines are aprox 2 inch longer than stock.
other than that there are lots of jobby people who will crimp you a new set for aprox 65 bucks a line. (flex line ) problem is who is the guy crimping it and how oftin dose he do it, did he use the right die did he use the right pressure. when you buy off the shelf you know 10000 were made and the guy making them has done heeps.
rover craft in furntree gully i think it was called. btw there brake pads are a ripper, my hood actualy dives down when i hit the brakes.
cheers. jeff.
