Yep my linning is all but completely sagged and would be hanging down at head height were it not for my gargo barrier Recently had a quote from a reputable trimmers here on the Gold Coast to replace it - all up $3.19 Inc GST. Have heard about folks trying to fix it hemselves without any lasting luck. Will get round to mine eventually.

    Roof lining.

Mines sagging in parts in the Defender and it's a job I'll get round to one day...... but I was thinking about removing the lining and cover right back to bare metal and then using marine style carpet glued direct to the roof.
Would this work? Has anyone else tried it and if so how did it end up? Most importantly, did it stay up?

    Adjesive spray

    Guys,
I'm planning to fix mine with M3 77 spray adjesive, have done the bit where O'briens stuffed it up and it came out pretty good. Will let you know about the rest. Not sure how long it will last but I can tell you that this spray is a good adhesive.
If someone has used this before, please comment.
    Cheers

yup - used 3m 77. At first, it lasted a few months, then each time I re-did it, it got worse (dropped sooner). Soon got the to the 'why bother' stage.

I tried the adhesive spray route on 2 different head linings, but it was never a success. Eventually had them re trimmed by a motor trimmer.

The last one I used did a great job. Jeff Squires over near Janalli in Sydney Mob:0418295484 Phone: (02) 9584 1434.

Jeff was really annoyed that I had used spray glue on the headlining because it made his job harder, getting out the lumps of glue and foam. He would rather that you just leave it alone an he removed the old foam dust.

However what I did do with the first one was remove all the foam and then turn the headlining base upside down, support the around edge and put a weight in the centre (interior light hole) to correct the dome shape. I then used a thick coating of clear lacquer over the entire surface. This soakes in and binds the cotton waste material its made of. Let it dry, then turned it over and did the other side, this time with a can working like a tent pole in the light hole.

After the trimmer fixed the new material, the result was a headlining that kept its shape.

Well time to come out of the shadows...

I had Ricky's (the range rover) headlining re done about 2 years ago.

John Molloy Motor trimmers in Mt Hawthorn did the job. Contact is/was Pete Mellors ph 08 09201 2212.

From memory it was $400 - 450 and as there was a sun roof it was a bit more expensive (order of $50). Doubtless it would be a wee bit more now.

I was more than happy with the job. Yes it may be lot of money but then again labour is not cheap these days and the job was well done. Certainly a fiddly job otherwise and not one that I would enjoy doing.

Does anyone know what material the roof lining shell is made from in a '99 D2 TD5? The trimmers I went to quoted me for doing the complete job but I also asked for a price if I handed them a bare sheet with the lining and foam residue removed - was going to pressure wash it when out of the car. The price was fair but they said to be careful as the shell was probably made of card board?

Can anyone confirm if the shell itself is made from cardboard or fibre glass?
