    wading plug?

Does a 97' disco V8 manual need a wading plug? When I called to order one I was told the V8 didn't need one. But other sources including this site have indicated that they are required.

I would have thought the bell housing needed one same as the TDi ( only when you're "wading" though ) Crawl under an see if there's a hole in bottom of the bell housing.
What does yr user manual say ( if u have one ? )

When you find out let me know. I cannot see anywhere on my manual 3.9 transmission for a wading plug.

    Confused?

My Range Rover 3.5 with LT77 has provision for fitting a wading plug. I even have the plug in the factory tool roll. It doesn't look like it has ever been fitted .

That's probably because Diesels can swim and V8s can't

The link above from 4Bee lists wading plugs for V8 manuals only, not auto

Wading plugs for 97 Disco Manual.

I had a V8 97 Disco Manual, and it did require a wading plug. The one time I got bogged in a mud pit, mine was not installed. Probably didn't help the clutch, or internal workings much.

They are cheap to buy from the dealer, and easy to install. I thought that a "duck billed' valve would be ideal, as it could be left in place, and any oil would drip out, and pressure would be relieved.

    Cheers,

    Ken

I have a V8 with a R380 box, I definitely don't have a wading plug, just a little slit on the bottom of the bell housing to engine connection. If I had a wading plug then I would definitely open it up to allow the seeping rear engine seal oil to drip out better

I have a 1994 V8 with the R380 and I don't think I have a wading plug or hole to put it in. The manual suggests I should but I can't find it.
