Hey if your tearing a 4 / 4.6 head apart please post a few pictures, I have a feeling mines getting old (170,000k's) and I might be having a crack at a top end rebuild early next year provided something else on the P38 doesn't explode in the mean time.
I had a super whiz bang test done on it about 3 months ago for overheating issues which magically went away (might have been radiator but not certain) and now have cold start issues which I am suspicious of being a slipped liner - AGAIN (engine had 2 liners done at 80,000ks by local LR dealer). The test done 3 months ago found nothing wrong with head gaskget/block but I just dont trust it. Engine has just started a few puffs of smoke under heavy acceleration and fuel economy isn't as good as when I bought the car 50,000k's ago. Otherwise uses a little oil (leaks as mush as it uses) and doesn't use coolant - maybe a cup every 5,000k's. Oil seems to get dirty very quickly though and is almost black by 5,000k's.
