    Offset rims

Everyone talks about 50mm offset rims and reversed disco rims...

I've just got a set of 15x7 sunraysias with 31x10.5's. They (just) fit with no lift (yet). Turning full lock L & R in the driveway seems ok. Are these offset rims only applicable for 12.5 wide tyres?

Also... my old (standard size) tyres used to tuck under the wheel arch when flexed. The bigger ones stick out further than the body (hmmm, flares?). Am i correct in thinking that i need a lift (and/or trimming) greater than the difference in tyre size. In other words, if my 28" tyres tuck under the wheel arch when flexed, and my 31's stick out, do i need more than a 3" lift/trim?

    Thanks in advance.

Interesting...I run same size rim/tyres on my Disco, and they tuck under OK, but I have a 2 inch spring lift. As it is, sometimes I get rubbing on the rear guard, but not enough to worry about. A set of flares might be a good idea, but if the tyres clear the guards when on full articulation, you may not need a lift of any description unless you want to. I'm sure an owner who has 33's wil add more on the topic of reversed and adjusted rims.

on my Rangie - 1 inch body / 3 inch spring lift run 33" BFG MTs on Reversed Disco rims no worries.

The turning circle is good and have no issues - other than under complete flex the flares sometimes cop a flogging

I am yet to run my 35" simex ETs since changing the springs - will do soon.

i am also running 255/85/R16 BFG muddies on my 110. i am using the old steel disco rims, the centres have been cut out and offset 300mm, not reversed. this has solved the problem of rubbing on the radius arms on full lock. a massive spring lift of unknown height helped some aswell, but only 2 inches on the front

hmm im very interested in this topic, i have just fitted 32x11.5 goodyear muds on roh 15x7 alloys, the tyre just sits flush, maybe a bit to the outside of the gaurd, it rubs on the front left and rear left if i go over a big bump fast or when i go up say a driveway with 5 people in the car (at moderate speed to go up a driveway - it has to be like really slow not to touch) and ocasionally on the rear right too, it has a 2" spring lift, i want a 4" spring lift, however, on compression the tyre will still want to come up into the gaurds correct?, so the other option is flares, but, they protude of the body 65mm, which will make the car look weird becasue the tyre will sit inside the flares a fair distance, but ill have no clearnce issues then. I have also removed the plastic trims below the doors as it rubbed in them too. Being a 94 classic, with SRS driver and passenger airbags, unfortunatly i cant just do a body lift, becasue it being illegal. So im at a crossroads what to do, flares or more lift or trim the original gaurds a bit. When going slow offroad etc though, it doenst seem to rub anywhere, but i also still have front and rear swaybars connected.

Sorry for the long post and a bit of a hi-jack, but im interested to hear others thoughts.

pardon me for sounding dumb but what are you talking about with the rims? 50mm offset I understand, thats the center off set 50mm so that the tyre sits out 50mm further than standard but what are reversed rims?

reversed rims are when you have the centre removed, turned around and welded back in place. this has the same effect, but gives you more of an offset if required.
you got it right with the offset assumption
