Before contemplating butchering your Defender, why not try setting the heater controls to FRESH AIR and to FOOT WELL with the fan ON.

Then add an intake scoop to the heater vent on the front (L) guard and see whether the forced air induction through the existing system helps.

I'm not saying it will, but at least it's worth a try .

I like the look of these vents, but you can get a single scoop type, which I think will probably be better, as it could easily be occluded for a river crossing, whereas this SPORT version would be more problematic.

Just another idea to throw in the mix.

Hmm, seems an interesting idea, only thing is the "footwell" vents on my 130 are two ****y little 3 inch ducts at about knee level? even on max fan setting bugger all air gets down to the footwell???
I pulled the linig back this evening, biggest problem me things will be the double thickness, footwell and outer gaurd. Although it does allow the possibility of a vent up high in the gaurd (leave open when fording) with some ducting down to a swivel vent at the feet??? probably alot of mucking about but I will keep a thinking?
    thanks for replies

Yes, by disconnecting the 'speed' input the cruise allows stepping through the rpm range.

    Its 'officially' a diagnostic mode...

Here, I finally found pics of the two scoops. The top one is cheaper & more practical, the SPORT version really looks good in satin, especially on chequerplate wing tops.
