Is anyone running 265/75/16's on a D1

I trimmed my guards for bfg 33" x 10.5" x 15" muddies.

For an upcoming simpson trip I fitted mickey thompson 265/75 r16 mtz on stock disco steelies. No problem with guards (already trimmed) but I don't like the turning circle because they hit the radius arms before the 33" did.

So my recommendation is to fit the 265/75, with trimmed guards, but have the wheel centres offset or use aftermarket wheels with less backspace.

I have 4.11:1 diff ratio and the 265/75 are a little small for my liking, but I fitted them because they are a popular size.

Exactly what British Off Road told me. The alloy wheel nuts can be used with the steel wheels as they have the little bevelled end bits. Hoewever they would look crap if you used them long term.

235/85 works very well for most applications. Guard trimming is required at the rear and I haven't had to touch the steering stops.

Quick hijack.....How does the manual 3.9 V8 cope with the 235/85 16 tyres?

i would get the 235's but you limit your brand choice as not many appear to do that brand, the the 265/75's i have choice of pretty much any mud tyre i want.

I just ordered wheel nuts from land vehicle spares, got 24 of them for $2 each. Matt

.....265/75/16 is over 31½ inches in diameter.:o

With standard offset rims the maximum diameter a D1 can carry is 31 inches without a wheel arch trim. Over 32 inches a body lift is required. A D2 can handle up to 32 inches without arch trim or body lift

Therefore you need to drop aspect ratio ratio (height of the tyre sidewall as a percentage of tyre width) of your tyres back from 75 to 70 to get diameter just below 31 inches.

my arches are trimmed, and a D1 cant fit 31in tyres without a trim, i had to trim mine to get them to fit. With the trim i have i should get the 265's under and adjust the stops so they dont hit the front on full lock. 31/105/15's should be the same width as the 265's shouldnt they? Or pretty damn close.

I just checked the caluclator on that link and the 265's are the same width as the 10.5/15's, they will just be slightly larger in diameter which should be right i have trimmed more off the rear than i needed to. Matt

I just had a look on the mickey thomspon site as they have the diameter of each tyre.

the 31/10.5/15's are 787mm in diamter and the 265/75/16's are 806mm this gives a diameter increase of 19mm meaning you only need 9.5mm extra room around the tyre over the 31/10.5/15's. I shouldnt have a problem with that, if they scrape it will be bugger all and as i said in my previous post they are the same width

Pretty well actually. You find that 5th is only used on the flat above an indicated speed of 90 and off-road it has no probs at all. These are on stock steel rims but I would like to get some play rubber fitted to offset rims and get defender ratios in the t/c.
