Is anyone running 265/75/16's on a D1

Im running Maxxis Bighorn 235/85/16's on the standard steelies on my 94 disco1. Only got 2"lift and get some minor rubbing at rear on full articulation and small amout of rub on front under compression on hard lock... Its no biggie though.. Have taken grinder to rear gaurds as well, however this can be done very neatly, not like mine:D

As for the width, i don't find it an issue on sand and can happily drop to 12psi if needed, and if things get really soft i have gone down to 8psi to get out, then puffed a bit more in again..

Think the 235's are about a 32 in the old scale..

so at a hundred on the highway what sort of revs does the engine sit at?

thanks mate, the 265/75/16's are also 32's but they are wider, they are exactly the same width as the 31/10.5r/15's i run off road now, they dont rub at all i am ust wondering how i will go with the slightly taller yet same width tyre

Yes....there's some cutting of the ali to be done. Also the plastic sill covers need cutting back.
There's a UK company called Innovation 4x4 that make unbreakable flexible arches now to the same pattern.
There is no cutting of the flares to be done...just a little bit of fettling with a file to contour the edges.

Yes 300Tdi.

With new Mickey Thompson 265/75 R16 MTZ at 44 psi (standard disco steel wheels) and 4.11:1 diff ratio

Indicated engine speed was approx 2600/2700 rpm, in 5th gear when gps was reading 100kph.

To correct for 3.54:1 diffs, divide the engine speed by 4.11, then multiply by 3.54.

When my disco was on a dyno, with 1/2 worn 33" bfg muddies at 44 psi, peak torque was at approx 72 kph in 4th gear.

It is generally accepted that, with diesels best economy is when engine is operating at about the revs which correspond with peak torque.

So in 5th it would have been about 94 kph, and somewhat less with the 265/75 R16.

So with my 200tdi at 100kph im reading only about 2100rpm in 5th.. (235/85/16)

So does this mean it is not running at its most economical.. I thought (perhaps wrongly) that running at less revs would be more efficient...

you havent changed the ratios since you fitted bigger tyres though have you?

I find when i run the bigger tyres mine uses alot more fuel than when using the smaller tyres cause i need to work it to get it up the hills. If i lived in the middle of no where with no hills i reckon the bigger tyres would improve economy cause the engine would be operating at lower revs therefor using less fuel, well thats the theory anyway.

Thanks for that Bush65, i think this is looking like the best way to go for me. 2600 revs would be about the same as what its doing now. matt
