Hi Peter, have you looked at these- http://www.kamdiffs.com/landrover_4_1.htm

for both diffs you are looking at about the $1150 mark, about the same price as stuffing around looking for a replacement transfer case from a fender. I will hopefully be looking at getting some in a month or two, if you are keen we might be able to order both at once and combine postage, which is something like 125 pounds, or there abouts, in AU Dollars thats like $300 or $150 each if we ordered them at the same time.

    As far as I can tell, Kam 4.1:1 cw&p are 41 T : 10 T.

    All else being equal, the Ashcroft 4.11:1 cw&p at 37 T : 9 T will be stronger.

The advertised price for a Kam gear set is UK238 pound, vs 195 for Ashcroft http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co...rt_13.html#pa2

Hi John, i thought that were much dearer than that, looks like that might be a way to go. Thanks for that.

You have Ashcrofts in your dont you, with 33's. How is the gearing on the highway with them?

I have 265/75-16 BFG AT's on my 3 door Disco. It's got a 2" lift and fender flared arches to avoid any rubbing on full articulation.

I've since fitted spacers to help fill out the arches a bit.

Never had a single issue with the tyre on standard steel Disco steelies either.I do lots of sand driving with pressures down to 15-16psi.

    Regards.

Yes I have the Ashcroft 4.11:1 r&p in the disco. With the 33" muddies, the speedo was reading nearly 10% high, compared to the gps.

I have just fitted 265/75 R16, for a trip to the Simpson. The gearing is a bit low with them for my liking - yet to check economy or speed against the gps.

BTW, the service from Ashcrofts was far better than my other experiences getting parts from the UK - nearly as good as from the USA.

When you say the gearing is a bit low, do you mean its reving a bit hard with the 265's? Matt

When the flares are fitted what was done to the wheel arches? Are they enlarged, meaning are the gaurds chopped to fit them. Matt

Yes, I suspect if the engine revs were a bit lower on the highway, the economy may be better - just how it feels, not tested.

I've not long had the Maxi done in the back and so I'm not that keen on having to have a diff re-done with clearances etc. Seems that getting a 'fender t/c complete would be a nice option and a simple bolt-on jobbie. Even if I got my t/c rebuilt with different gears it'd cost me about the same.

Doing the diffs will lower low range gearing also. Using a defender case won't. I ended up using a defender case and then maxidrive crawler gears to get the result i wanted.
