Just to slightly hijack this, but hopefully still relevant and of interest, is this legal in all states here? I was going to do this for extra lighting, but was concerned there may be regs regarding maximum height above ground for lighting??

Dependant on how much a pr1ck the police officer wants to be, you may get a decent fine (around $400 I was told) If the have covers on them? If they are wired to be only used in Low Range (bit of a pr1ck to setup but possible) or have a waterproof trailor plug and only connect them when offroad. There was a thread on this a few months ago but yes they'll fit and yes they're not legal, but Land Rover did it on the Camel trophey and G4 cars didn't they.

I'd run the wires down the A pillar beside the snorkel and into the engine bay, then have a trailor plug setup attached in the engine bay or a main power switch so they can be connected and disconnected in a second.

Relay was talking of the legality issue the other week. Someone they know got a fine for having them on the car (disconnected) but still having the ability to reflect glare into an oncomming traffic, why normally mounted spotties don't do this I do not know.

I am about to do the same. I agree with dobbo, the best place i think is down the pillar next to the snorkel.

Or the windscreen glass, for that matter.

The strange part about this, is that although having them on the roof is illegal (working ones) in NSW they can be fitted if they are for ornamental purposes only (ie) BLING, but the RTA states in another part of their laws that all lights fitted must work

Seems a bit stupid too me.
    Cheers Baz.
