IIRC Chris Brain (Swaggi) from the LROCV had some rock slider which converted to a rigid tow.

Hey Trav
I am about to make my own sliders and just wanted to know what thickness RHS did you use? I was thinking 5mm wall, but I am having trouble getting that. I can get 3mm or 6mm
Cheers
Andrew

My PIPE sliders on the IIA are 4mm wall and have held up fine - i.e. there are deep gouges out of them from rocks, but they aren't bent.
A mate made his from 3mm wall and managed to bend them (slightly) - but the copped a lot of abuse.
I have some 120x50 (?) 4mm wall RHS for my 110 sliders, but it is quite heavy, and if steel wasn't so expensive these days I would probably get some 3mm wall instead.
i have 3.5mm wall tube, about 35mmish dia i think, what ever all the rock crawling buggies are made from, they have bearly even been scratched. if you go for a thinner wall just make sure that you have adequate 'back bracing' (i suppose you call it) from the slider part back to RHS under your door, mine are about 350mm apart, i would't go anymore then 500mm. just my 2 cents worth anyways...![]()
I have a set of Justins on and have given them a bit of curry and you wont bend them, unless you fall off a cliff.
i wish
got the side steps the ones that look like arb they could be arb or original landrover not sure
they are the tubular looking ones with the chequer plate on the top ones got a bit of damage on the side from previous owner bit of a dent and some paint missing cant see it from a distance but whe you get up close you can see it easily and that the chequer plate has lifted slightly.....
cant wait to get them off and get rid of them
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......
