Ladas, thanks for the quick reply. My cooler is much simpler than in the picture. It is a simple loop that runs from the left rear corner of the box forward a short distance and then under the box to the right side and then forward between the chassis and the bell housing/ engine. It then does a u turn and runs back to the box. No little radiator assembly. It is supported by a bracket at the starter motor but nothing else forward of that but it runs almost to the front crossmember.Thats quite a distance of unsupported pipe work in my opinion and there is nothing to stop it oscillating on bumps etc. There is a flexible section in there somewhere, behind the starter motor adjacent to the bell housing. What do you think?130man.

yep, never seen a TD5 one looking like that.
I think if you check the VIN on that doc, it's a Tdi one.

Ladas, is that EPC or MicroCat ?

I was watching the local LR guys putting a box back into a Defender a few weeks back and I think there is some fouling of the box and the floor. I didn't note the details but i do know it was a bit of a bugger to do - and they had the car on a hoist..

Ron, I reinstalled my g/box, t/case and bell housing as a unit by constructing a beam support through the cabin and hanging a chainblock off that. The whole process went quite smoothly and I used the guide bolt idea from Rick 130 to make sure it slid in straight. There was no fouling at all but I installed the high/low range lever after the box was in place which may have made the difference.130man.

    That could have been it.

I see you live around Dungog - did you take the old box to Derek or Murray at Modern Motors for a check over?

No, I talked to Murray and they were fully booked so were unable to help me at the time.I bought a recon unit from All 4x4 which they had on the shelf.130man.

There is a bloke who lives up near me with a 130 that looks as tho he does smash derbys in it..he drives to Broome regularly and has a 300lt tank in it..but his gearbox is U/S after the oil pump failed..he drives it anyways like a truck and has done for 8 months...you guys should see it a real bush cocky right down to 2 red heelers in the tub...
He walked around my fender for about 20 mins and said where are the dents, I said I'm working on it..
With no steering guard his steering arm looks like a piece of cold spaghetti.. his Salis is nearly scraped level..I will take some pics next time I see him.. A moving testament to abuse and surviveability..Oh and 500 000 km on the clock..oil changes every 20k he has never changed the tranny oil and the diffs twice..Maybe his secret is like women "Treat em mean , keep em keen"If I offended any Ladies lookin at this post..ya get that from a self confessed chauvinist everytimeunless you single and good looking then I apologise sincerly
