Is any cruise control kit suitable for these connections, or is there something that suits the 'Fender better than others ?

The plug on top is the black plug on the ECU under the seat.

The pins on the ECU will be connected the following way:
    Pin 10 - ignition +12V
    Pin 11 - switch 1 (set function)
    Pin 15 - ignition +12V
    Pin 17 - switch 2 (resume function)

Pin 19 - is only mentioned, that you can connect here the available TD5 tachometer, not used for the cruise control

So the cruise control works by supplying ignition +12V to pin 10/15 permanently and the functions are activated by supplying the same temporary to pin 11 or 17.

For getting the ignition switched +12V (Zuendplus Klemme 15), if I remember correctly, when I had last time my dash off, use the green/white cable at the temperature or fuel gauge in the dash. Put two switches on the dash and run a long cable to the ECU.

More clear now? It works on my TD5 but no guarantee

So how are you tapping into the plug, from the other side (the side you plug into) or do you tap the wires ?

    Am I understanding this correctly

Pins 10, 11, 15 17 are presently empty pins in the black plug on the ECU. So Ign. 12 volts has to be supplied to pins 10 and 15 from an ignition source.
The 2 switches required ( Set/ Resume ) are NOT normal toggle ( ON/OFF ) switches but something like push button switches.
The 12volt supply from the Set/Resume switches pins 11 & 17 only need momentary 12volt supply to do their job.

Would this cruise control have small adjustments like regular C/ controls eg: raises the speed by 1kph per push.

    Thanks

    Mal

No you can't do one push one k. But if you hold the + button it does speed up. In practice I've found it best just to drive to the speed you want and hit the set button.

How does it turn off when you apply the brakes? Does the ECU do this?

the defenders have already got the switches on the brakes and the clutch.......
and the cruise control is already part of the ecu.....they just havent fitted the necessary wiring and switches in oz.......

so...the short answer is yes.........it should cut out when you press either the brakes or the clutch........

    Thanks Tony,

Have you done it to Lurch?

I'll add this job to the list ( probably near the top ) as it doesn't appear to be too involved.

Has anybody used cruise control switches from another vehicle ( indicator stock variety ) or after market.

Just wondering where to put the switches, ( No fowl comments please )

I will be mounting mine on the center console. The switches I set up for the winch will now become the cruise control.
